Maharashtra’s Drought History

Maharashtra, a state in India, faces recurring droughts, particularly in certain regions.

Ranje village, nestled in Bhor Tehsil of Pune district, exemplifies resilience. Despite facing water scarcity, the community took proactive steps. The desilting project in Ranje serves as a model for other villages, showcasing how local action can contribute to sustainable water management.

Velhe-Budruk is located in Velhe Tehsil of Pune district in Maharashtra.
The nearest city from Velhe Budruk is Pune, which is located approximately 65 km away. Farming, particularly rice cultivation, is the backbone of the local economy, anchoring the community in its agrarian roots. Yet, beneath the calm rhythm of village life lies a strong undercurrent of change due to its proximity to Pune.

Panchanadi village, along with Aghari and Borivali, forms the Panchanadi Gram Panchayat in Dapoli Taluka of Ratnagiri District. Despite receiving moderate rainfall, the region faces persistent challenges in water retention and sustainable groundwater levels, making watershed interventions critically important.

To address these issues, we have undertaken the desilting of five cement nala bunds to improve groundwater recharge, revive natural streams, and support long-term biodiversity conservation. Based on primary and expert surveys, these five nala bunds were identified for desilting, along with stone pitching for soil conservation.

The RM Tulpule Charitable Trust has provided funding to the 14trees foundation (https://14trees.org/) in April 2022 for one acre of barren land to be converted into a forest which would contain approximately 330 native trees. The foundation under the stewardship of Pravin Bhagwat, its chairman, has been actively working on the reforestation concept and execution of this methodology for the last 7 years.

The The RM Tulpule Charitable Trust initiated the funding for the BioGas Project in October 2021 for the purpose of demonstrating and evaluating the benefits of clean conversion of kitchen waste and Cow Dung into cooking gas (LPG) for typical rural households.

The RM Tulpule Charitable Trust has provided funding for the Solar eBike Project in July 2022 for the purpose of providing green transportation for college level girls to go to remove villages and teach local schoolgirls hygiene and help with women’s issues.
